What DrainLab is
DrainLab is a set of free tools to test a laptop from the browser: keyboard, mouse and touchpad, microphone, speakers, webcam, screen and battery. Each test gives a clear result and explains what to do when something is not working.
Why it exists
Testing a laptop used to require diagnostic software, an account or technical knowledge. Someone buying a used laptop, picking one up from repair or trying to find out why the mic fails on calls needs a quick answer. DrainLab gives it in a few minutes on any system: Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS.
How the tests work
The tools use features already built into the browser to read the keyboard, mouse, camera, microphone, screen and battery. All processing happens on your device: nothing you type, record or film is sent to a server. Details are in the privacy policy.
Who makes it
DrainLab is an independent project made in Brazil, available in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The tools are reviewed and updated often, and suggestions for new tests are welcome through the contact page.
How the site is funded
DrainLab is free and funded by Google AdSense ads shown on the pages outside the tool areas. Ads never have access to the camera, the microphone or test results.
